Providing Quality Support for a Better Quality of Life

Elmy’s Special Services, Inc. is a community-based organization in New York City established in 2002 that aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals diagnosed with disabilities and provide support for their families. The organization was formed by a group of informed professionals who seek to support immigrant families in low socio-economic communities who were generally underserved because of cultural and linguistic barriers.

ESS is funded by the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), the Department of Health ( DOH), the Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). At the heart of our success lie the vital partnerships among our core group of stakeholders who are the center of our service delivery system.

Since our inception, we have administered various programs to support and promote the independence, dignity, and functioning of children in their natural environment and ensure that they live meaningful and fulfilling lives among family and friends. Our services provide opportunities for social and intellectual engagement, such as education, therapeutic activities, and community acceptance in safe, inclusive, and conducive environments.

At Elmy’s Special Services, Inc., we believe that every person, at every age and level of ability, has growth potential. We believe that they deserve to receive services in their community regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation and that each of them is entitled to the same dignity, respect, and opportunities as all other members of society.

We are firmly committed to helping each people we serve, and we strive hard to nurture these individuals by providing comprehensive and individualized services to help achieve their maximum potential for independence, individuality, productivity, and inclusion in their communities.

a very happy man

We believe that every person, regardless of his or her race, ethnicity, or disability, should be treated with dignity and respect. Because of this belief, we will ensure that every person will achieve his or her full potential through appropriate and individualized programming.

Our vision is to be a community where families of children with disabilities have the information, resources, and support they need to make informed choices for the health of their children. We also envisioned a world where individuals with disabilities are recognized by their abilities, not by their disabilities.

We are committed to promoting a culture that embraces:

  • Excellence: Surpassing expectations
  • Professionalism: Respond to the community with efficiency and quality
  • Leadership: Promoting individual growth through continuous training and support
  • Creativity: Meeting the needs of individuals by acting in innovative ways that generate independence

  • To educate, serve, and support individuals with developmental or other disabilities
  • To administer programs that aim to support and promote the independence, dignity, and functioning of individuals in their natural environment
  • To create a clinical milieu by using a culturally sensitive approach to assist in achieving personal goals and promote emotional well-being

To achieve these goals, we will always consider your preferences and recommendations from professionals to continue improve and enhance the quality of services that we provide.
